SC annuls Govt decision to reduce Regal’s jail term; Regal arrested from Nepalgunj

Kathmandu / Nov. 2: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order to cancel the Government’s decision to provide amnesty to Yog Raj Dhakal ‘Regal’ who was serving life in prison for a murder case.

A full bench of acting chief justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, and Kumar Chudal issued the verdict on Thursday.

Information officer of the SC, Govinda Prasad Ghimire, informed that the SC verdict has overturned the Government’s decision to reduce Regal’s prison terms.

President Ram Chandra Paudel had on the occasion of the Constitution Day reduced Regal’s prison terms on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

Regal was serving a jail term for murdering Chetan Manandhar in 2015 with a sharp weapon (Khunda) in Nepalgunj.

Yog Raj Dhakal ‘Regal’ arrested after SC verdict

Meanwhile, Police arrested Yog Raj Dhakal ‘Regal’ from Nepalgunj.

Superintendent of Police (SP) at District Police Office Banke, Subash Chandra Bohara informed that he was arrested this afternoon.

Today Supreme Court issued an order to cancel the Government’s decision to provide amnesty to Yog Raj Dhakal ‘Regal’ who was serving life in prison for a murder case.

A murder convict, Regal was paroled by the President on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers. However, in response to a writ petition filed against the decision, the Supreme Court overruled the decision and directed the government to arrest Regal to serve the rest of his imprisonment.

Regal was jailed after he was found guilty by the court of murdering Chetan Manandhar. Chetan’s wife filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the government’s decision to release Regal forgiving his remaining sentence.

A full bench of acting chief Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla, and Kumar Chudal issued the verdict on Thursday.
