24 persons get lifetime imprisonment for their involvement in Rukum killings

Rukum Paschim / Dec 5: The Rukum Paschim District Court has handed down lifetime imprisonment to 24 persons for their involvement in the killing of six persons at Sotigaun of Chaurjahari Municipality-8 in Rukum Paschim district.

The district court on Tuesday evening gave its verdict on the case after the hearing since Sunday.

Nabaraj BK of Jajarkot district and five other were killed on May 23, 2020. The others murdered in the incident were Ganesh Budha, Lokendra Sunar, Sanjib KC and Govinda Shahi of Jajrkot and Tika Ram Nepali of Chaurjahari Municipality in Rukum Paschim district.

A single bench of District Judge Khadga Bahadur KC gave the verdict of the lifetime imprisonment to 24 persons for their involvement in the crime, Information Officer of District Court Govinda Prasad Koirala told the RSS.

According to Koirala, Nabaraj’s alleged girlfriend and two other members of her family have been slapped with Rs 50,000 in fine and two years of jail sentence on charge of the caste-based discrimination.

A total of 34 persons were held after a complaint was lodged over the case.

Nabaraj BK of Ranagau of Bheri Municipality in Jajarkot district and his five friends, who had been to the house of BK’s girlfriend at Sotigaun, were killed by the girl’s family members and local people from the village rejecting the nuptial tie of BK and his girlfriend from the Thakuri community.

Twelve persons were injured in the harrowing incident and the dead bodies of those killed were found in Bheri river. RSS
