Nation stands united at the time of crisis; Dr. KC puts-off his strike

dr_govindaKathmandu / September 29: As India imposed unannounced blockade to Nepal, the whole nation is united and standing against India’s interference in the internal affairs of the country.

Realizing that the country is passing through a very critical situation, senior orthopedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Prof Dr Govinda KC, has put off his hunger strike on Tuesday.

Dr KC was on fast-unto-death demanding entire implementation of the recommendations of Prof Dr Kedar Bhakta Mathema-led Commission for the reforms of medical education.

Noting that the current problem facing the country is more severe than the issue he has raised, Dr KC said that he has come up with the decision to withdraw his seven time hunger strike at the request of well-wishers and medical persons.

Dr KC has embarked on his fresh hunger strike on September 19. So far he has staged hunger strike for total 64 days demanding overhaul of medical education sector. During the recent rounds of hunger strike, he has witnessed his health deteriorating.

Dr. KC has organized hunger strikes demanding to stop irregularities in the medical education of the nation. Dr. KC waged crusade against medical colleges running after money rather than producing quality human resources. Many medical college owners including UML Lawmaker Rajendra Pandey tried to foil Dr. KC’s attempt but failed to do so as all the nation stood in his favour.

Dr. KC staged latest hunger strike on the day of promulgation of new constitution. There are some posts in social media stating that the time is not suitable for the strike as the country is in the celebration mood but the country entered into crisis after India imposed unannounced blockade to Nepal.

As Nepal is currently reeling under shortage of petroleum products, people are showing their restraint and encouraging the government not to accept unnecessary demand of India rather they are ready to face problems. People have been appealing each other to extend supporting hands to needy people as the country is in crisis. Only some leaders and cadres of Madhesh based parties have been organizing strike in some parts of the country at a time when the country stands united against high handedness of India.
