PM Koirala meets injured of Madhes agitation; NWPP condemns Indian blockade

Koirala at parliamentKathmandu / October 6: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Tuesday visited the injured of Tarai Madhes and Tharuhat-Tharuwan agitations at Bir Hospital and wished for their speedy recovery.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister said that the entire treatment costs of the injured would be borne by the government.

The PM also met with patients’ relatives and urged them to immediately inform him if they feel or encounter any difficulty in the treatment of their relatives.

He further said the government has initiated talks with the agitating political parties and groups by forming the talks team. The Prime Minister took stock of the health condition of the injured from doctors involved in their treatment, according to the PM’s press coordinator Prakash Adhikari. He directed the hospital to leave no stone unturned for the best treatment to those admitted to the hospital after being injured in the agitations.

During the visit, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Mahesh Acharya, Minister for Health and Population Khagaraj Adhikari, Home Secretary Surya Silwal and Health and Population Secretary Shanta Bahadur Shrestha.

Meanwhile, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) has accused India of attempting to take hold of Nepal in the name of republicanism.

Issuing a press release on Tuesday following its four-day meeting held in the chairmanship of party Chairperson Narayanman Bikukchhe, the NWPP criticized the border blockade imposed by India on Nepal, claiming the act against the international laws and treaties.

According to the press statement, the meeting reached a decision to hold various discussions, interactions and discussions across as many as districts in the country so as to inform the party’s members about the party’s endorsement for the newly promulgated constitution despite the party’s discontent on many issues.
