Witch doctors receives health orientation for raising awareness

Baitadi / October 9: The conjurers in Shivanath VDC in Baitadi district have been given health orientation recently.

The Cultural and Social Reforms Forum conducted the orientation programme under the maternal, new-born and child health nutrition programme with support from Save the Children.

Programme Coordinator of Forum Upendra Chand said that all the witch doctors of the VDC were informed about different aspects of health issues.

Likewise, the orientation programmes are launched by targeting the mother groups and child clubs as well to inform them about the health and nutrition of new mothers and children.

In the past witch doctors were the cause of deaths of many people in remote areas of the country but with increased awareness level and sensitization from different organization, they have been playing positive role for raising awareness in the society. Many illiterate people of the rural societies opt to visit witch doctors rather than going to the health institutions. RSS
