Bheri Hospital launches kidney transplant service

Banke / April 22: Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj has officially launched its kidney transplant service starting today.
According to the hospital’s chief and medical superintendent, Dr. Nirajan Subedi, this marks the first time the hospital is conducting kidney transplants, beginning with two patients undergoing the procedure in succession.
A 14-member team led by Dr. Pukar Chandra Shrestha from the Shahid Dharmabhakta National Transplant Center (SDNTC) has arrived to support the launch of the new service. With the introduction of this facility, patients requiring kidney transplants will no longer need to travel long distances.
The hospital plans to perform at least one transplant per month, with gradual expansion of the service in the future.
The transplant team includes urology specialist Dr. Dipesh Gupta, anesthesiologist Dr. Paras Pandey, nephrologist Dr. Shaurav Hamal, urologist Dr. Anjit Phuyal, and dialysis in-charge Dr. Parash Shrestha.
Currently, the hospital provides dialysis services to 20–25 kidney patients daily. Dr. Subedi noted that the transplant procedures are being offered at a significantly affordable cost.
In addition to the kidney transplant service, Bheri Hospital has recently introduced several new facilities, including a six-bed burn ward, a 20-bed surgical ward, a 16-bed post-operative ward, and a new outpatient department (OPD). RSS
