Vice-president takes oath of office and secrecy; resumes office
Kathmandu / November 1: President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly elected Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun at a special ceremony held at the Rastrapati Bhawan, Shital Niwas this afternoon.
Also present on the occasion were Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha, Speaker Onsari Gharti, Deputy PMs Kamal Thapa, Bijaya Kumar Gachchadar and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former PMs, Ministers, MPs, industrialists and heads and representatives of diplomatic mission.
Former second-in-command of the Maoist liberation army Pun was elected to the post of the Vice-president by the Legislature-Parliament in the voting that took place on Saturday.
As soon as Pun took the oath of office and secrecy, outgoing Vice-President Paramananda Jha handed over his seat to Pun and left the stage after congratulating his successor.
Of the total of 596 members of the Legislature Parliament, 547 lawmakers cast their votes. Ten votes were declared invalid. Of the 537 valid votes, Pun received 325 while Yadav accumulated 212 votes. RSS
