Japanese Ambassador pays courtesy call to President ; provides donation to BP Eye Foundation

flagKathmandu / March 18: Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Masashi Ogawa, paid a courtesy call on President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the President Office, Sheetal Niwas, Friday.

During the meeting, discussion was held regarding the projects funded by Japanese government in Nepal, said the Office of the President.

Chief Representative of JICA Nepal, Tsitomu Shimizu, was also present on the occasion. The chief representative of JICA is returning home after completing his term in near future.

Meanwhile, the Government of Japan has provided a financial grant of around Rs 9.74 million to the BP Eye Foundation Nepal.

An agreement to this end was signed on Friday by Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Masashi Ogawa and Foundation Chairman Dr Purna Chandra Karmacharya, according to the Japanese Embassy in Nepal. The financial support would be used for the construction of a hostel for the Children’s Hospital for Eye, Ear and Rehabilitation Services (CHEERS) run under the Foundation.

B.P. Eye Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization established in 1991 with the objective of improving the eye health of Nepali population. It has been also been providing eye science education by establishing BP Koirala Lions Centre for Ophthalmic Studies in coordination with the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. RSS
