Nepal defeats Namibia by three wickets; VP Pun congratulates winning team

Nepal CricketKathmandu / April 18: Nepal defeated Namibia by three wickets in the World Cricket League Championship (WCLC) held in the capital city today.

With the win, Nepal pines hope to figure in the top four teams of the WCLC.

In the match played at TU cricket ground Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Namibia batted first and scored 239 run in the set 50 over by losing nine wickets.

Chasing the target of 240 runs set by Namibia, Captain Paras Khadka played brilliantly with the century plus leading Nepal to victory by three wickets. With a one ball remained, Nepal became successful to meet the target, scoring 243 runs by losing seven wickets.

For Nepal’s victory, Sharad Veswakar made 74 runs not out while Binod Bhandari 12, Gyanendra Malla 22, Naresh Budhaayer 6, and Rajesh Pulami Magar and Sagar Pun one each.

The Namibian captain made half-century (51 run) while another Jane Green scored 47 runs.

Nepal had to wait till 20.4 over for the first wicket. Sandip Lamichhane, Basant Regmi and Shakti Gauchan took two wickets each.

Meanwhile, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has congratulated the Nepali cricket team on their victory against Namibia in the World Cricket League Championship.

Nepal’s outstanding performance in the match has instilled the ray of hope that it could do better in cricket in the days ahead, Vice President’s Press coordinator Manoj Gharti said on behalf of the Vice President.

The Nepali cricket team and its coach deserve congratulations, the Vice President said in a statement Monday. It may be noted that the Vice President reached the TU cricket ground where Nepal and Namibia played the match to boost up the morale of domestic team on Saturday. RSS
