NFDN for implementation of disable-friendly provisions in new constitution

Kathmandu / April 20: The National Federation of the Disabled, Nepal (NFDN) underscored the need for implementing the disable-friendly provisions incorporated in the newly promulgated constitution.

At a press conference organized by the NFDN here today, the Federation’s President Sudarsham Subedi bemoaned that no deliberations were held on the differently-able persons in the regional level meetings such as mini SAARC summit recently held in Pokhara.

He shared that of the total 22,000 injured during the Gorkha earthquake, 5,000 persons developed physical disabilities. According to the World Health Organization estimate, there are around 2 million people with disabilities in Nepal.

Also, shared among the nugget of information was NFDN President Subedi elected as the treasurer of the 9th executive committee of the World Council of persons with disabilities.

A total of 10 countries in the world have constitution that is disability-friendly, it was shared. RSS
