‘Trekking before every performance keeps me rejuvenated in body and spirit’

Amrit GurungKathmandu / May 13: This Saturday, Jawalakhel ground will resonate with music from Nepathya as the folk-rock band plays a concert that is part of ‘Coca-Cola Pheri Uthne Chha Nepal’ campaign. Proceeds from the charity concert will go towards rehabilitating children affected by the April 2015earthquake. “We will be playing the audience’s favorites,” states frontman Amrit Gurung.

Are you ready for your upcoming concert?
Yes, we have been rehearsing. We are normally well prepared. If you give us 24 hours of notice, we are ready to perform the next day. We will be playing around 20 songs. As a surprise, we will be performing a couple of songs from our most recent but yet-to-be released album.

Is the album releasing soon?
We are not sure when it will be launched in the market. But everything, apart from the album name, is ready. We were working on it for almost four years but the release date hasn’t been fixed. It has 10 songs with the usual flavors but I hope our listeners will enjoy them.

Where do you get the energy and the enthusiasm to perform?
It’s been 24 years that I’ve been making music. The band has seen 19 members so far. Our love for music and the good wishes that come our way enhance our energy. Personally, I make it a point to go trekking before a concert which keeps me rejuvenated in body and spirit. I like being close to the mountains. For this concert, I prepared by visiting my village in Kaski after which I came back fresh and ready.

What is special about this concert?
There is a certain kind of satisfaction in performing for charity shows. I’m happy to be part of this. When the earthquake occurred last year, we had just one day of performance left in Australia. We were speechless when we heard about the devastation in Nepal. I always wanted to do something more for the earthquake survivors. We did raise some funds then and donated it to the PM’s Relief Fund but we were eager to do more. Now the ‘Coca-Cola Pheri Uthne Chha Nepal’ has come as the opportunity for us to offer our help. It’s sad that a year has passed but nothing concrete has been done yet. This is a symbolic support that we are providing because there’s not a lot that can happen after one concert. We’re providing moral support and encouragement to people. We haven’t forgotten what happened. This is to remind and motivate people- afno lagi hami afaile garnu parcha.
