Party leaders stress on resolving differences through talks than agitation

Sujata KoiralaKathmandu / May 14: Leaders of different parties at a programme organized by the Reporters Club here on Saturday, stressed on addressing the genuine demands of the agitating parties.

Nepali Congress (NC) leader Sujata Koirala has argued that NC as a major opposition party should play a role of the watchdog to the incumbent government. She further said that there was no any need of a change in the incumbent government. She was of the opinion that such a thing would lead the country to instability.

Koirala, also the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, underscored the earliest formulation of new laws to hold the local bodies’ election as she added it would further strengthen the democracy.

Koirala also urged the agitating Federal Alliance to call it quits to their protest. She voiced that the mood of the people and need of the nation was development than demonstration in the aftermath of the promulgation of new constitution.

Also speaking at the programme, CPN (UML) leader Raghubir Mahaseth stressed for unity and selflessness among the political parties for greater good of the nation.

Referring to agitation being waged by the disgruntled Madhesh-centric political parties in protest of new constitution, he stated that such differences should be ironed out through talks and dialogue.

Speaking in the similar vein, UCPN (Maoist) leader Prabhu Shah pointed out the need for implementing the new national statute through dialogue. “The Madheshis are also fellow countrymen. Their genuine demands should be taken into account by the government,” he added.

Similarly, CPN (Maoist) Coordinator Matrika Yadav claimed that the country would not make headway for development and the new constitution would not come to effect until the Madhesh is granted authority and rights.

He suggested that the Madhesh-centric political parties should be roped into the government and sort out the differences.

Likewise, Madheshi Janadhikar Forum Nepal (Lokatantrik) Chairman Raj Kishore Yadav spoke of the need for the government to meet the genuine demands of the Madheshi community. RSS
