Seven snow leopards under protection in Gorkha

snow leopardGorkha / May 16: As many as seven endangered snow leopards are under protection in the northern VDCs Chhekampar and Samagaun under the Snow Leopard Preservation Campaign of the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP).

The area is known to be the habitat of snow leopard. MCAP chief Raj Kumar Gurung said that they launched awareness campaign among the locals then they were mobilized for the preservation of the endangered animals.

The experts believed that there might be 15 leopards in the district, however, only seven were found during the survey.

According to preservation officer, there are about 300 to 500 snow leopards in the country. RSS
