PM Oli says govt’s policy and programme is departure point for national development

Kathmandu / July 9: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has vowed to pursue the policy and programme as well as the budget presented for the next fiscal year as the point of departure in efforts towards national development.

The Prime Minister said this while responding to the queries related to the Ministry of Urban Development, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the National Planning Commission Secretariat, the Office of the President and the Office of the Vice President under the Appropriation Bill, 2073 BS raised by lawmakers in course of the discussions on the Appropriation Bill in the meeting of the Legislature-parliament, today.

He said the development works forwarded by the government would be carried out in an effective manner.

Works related to the modern urbanisation would be accomplished by removing the practical difficulties, he added.

Stating the present budget was the common budget of all- the ruling parties, the opposition parties and all, PM Oli reiterated that efforts have been made in the budget to carry out development initiatives for nation building by paying attention to the various areas of development. He further stated that the government has stressed on maintaining a balance between population and development, and so the budget was not unbalanced.

He mentioned about the plan to establish additional division offices, completing the running projects within the designated time, making the existing offices and the to-be-established offices well-equipped and carry ahead effectively the inter-ministry coordination to move ahead the works of the Ministry of Urban Development in an effective manner.

Expressing sadness over the people having to face difficulties and the loss of life and property due to flood and landslide, the Prime Minister paid tribute to all those killed in the disasters. He informed the Parliament that the government would bear the medical expenses for the treatment of those injured in the disaster.

PM Oli reiterated that the government has given equal attention to the public welfare works while expressing the commitment to working in more effective manner in the days ahead. He made it clear that not only the budget but the government was committed to providing the construction materials also for the projects of national pride to implement them with high priority.

Informing that the budget has plans to construct 20,000 housing units for impoverished and marginalised people next year, he said that development projects would be initiated as per suggestions and advices and with the cooperation of lawmakers.

He said that he was cautioned against the fact that there may be a lack of budget to construct the Ring Road and other roads in Biratnagar and Janakpur and that infrastructure development projects would not be left incomplete.

The PM said that speeding up of road construction and development of integrated urbanisation have been prioritized and budget has been allocated for the same.

Saying the budget has accommodated the projects to construct postal highway, develop additional 10 towns, manage increment of investment, increase production, introduce one town one identity and increase economic activities, he said that programmes to develop integrated, modern and safe settlement would be run in coordination with the National Reconstruction Authority.

On ways of sorting out Madhes issue, the PM said that the government was committed to resolving the issues of Tarai-Madhes through talks as it was holding talks with the protesting parties. RSS
