Differently-able ones face problems due to delay in endorsement of Bill

people with disabilitiesKathmandu / July 13: The differently-able ones have expressed their displeasure over the delay in passing the Bill which was presented in Parliament on July 4 this year, which they claim has deprived them of their rights and state-granted privileges.

At a press conference organized by the National Federation of Disabled, Nepal, the national umbrella organization of the persons with disabilities, bemoaned that the Bill, re-written by the Draft Committee, was registered in the parliament last year but it failed to be endorsed by the parliament.

The Bill incorporates the people with minor disabilities, seeking to secure the rights of people with all kinds of disabilities across the country and encompassed the rights to education, health, employment and entertainment for them, according to Federation President Sudarshan Subedi.

Also the Federation shared that it received 20 complaints which stated that some people had used the fake certificate of disability to enter the government service but in lack of Bill, Acts and rules related to it, no action could be taken against the culprits.

Subedi underscored the endorsement of the Bill as the earliest for bringing into effect the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the verdict issued by the Supreme Court four years ago on the favor of differently-abled people. RSS
