166 lost lives in capital road accidents last year

police logoKathmandu / July 24: A total of 166 people lost their lives in road accidents that took place in the Kathmandu Valley last fiscal year.

Of the deceased, 40 percent were pedestrians, according to the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division. Failure to abide by the traffic rules by both pedestrians and drivers is one the major reasons behind the significant number of road accidents in the country, including in the capital, Division Co-Spokesperson Rajendra Bhatta said.

Lack of sufficient road infrastructure and lack of proper utilisation of available resources are also the causes of accidents.

Meanwhile, Traffic Police launched the Pedestrian Safety Campaign from today for the safety of pedestrians by reducing the number of road accidents.

Traffic Police has also launched the SMS service to listen to complaints of passengers. Passengers are requested to send a text to 9851295100 if they are overcharged or harassed during travel. RSS
