NHRC’s attention drawn to save Ganga Maya’s life

NHRCKathmandu / Aug 17: Human rights workers campaigning to save the life of Ganga Maya Adhikari met with Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission Anup Raj Sharma on Wednesday, drawing the Commission’s attention towards Ganga Maya and her long struggle for justice.

Handing over a memo to the NHRC Chair at the Commission, they appealed to him to take the initiative to protect the life of Ganga Maya who is staging a fast-unto-death seeking justice for her son murdered during the Maoist insurgency in the country.

In response, Chairman Sharma said the Commission was serious about the matter and would move ahead by holding necessary discussions in that regard.

Also today, the human rights workers staged a sit-in in front of Bir Hospital in order to exert pressure on the government to respond to Ganga Maya’s demand for justice. Senior human rights activist Charan Prasain is leading the ‘Save Ganga Maya Campaign’.

Meanwhile, Ganga Maya has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Bir Hospital after her health deteriorated since she began the fast-unto-death three days ago. RSS
