Press Council award provided to Bohara and Neupane

press-council-awardKathmandu / Dec 20: President Bidya Devi Bhandari today has posthumously awarded two journalists, Karna Bohara and Sanjaya Neupane with the Press Council-Sanima Bank National Journalism Award amid a function at Rastrapati Bhawan.

President Bhandari handed over the award to their wives, Mamata Bohora and Radhika Neupane. The award carries a purse of Rs 250,000 each. Journalist Bohara had passed away on November 23 and Neupane on November 5.

On the occasion, President Bhandari stressed on the role of the Council to maintain professional dignity of the journalists. She urged the journalists to be aware of the civic freedom and privacy while utilizing the press freedom.

Similarly, Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki focused on the role of journalism to strengthen the democracy adding that respecting the journalism was the respect of democracy.

Speaking in the programme, Council chairman Borna Bahadur Karki shared that the award has proved that the people could be feted even after their death for their good deeds.

Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) president Dr Mahendra Bista said that the journalism sector faced irreparable loss from the death of the journalist duo. RSS
