NHRC Spokesperson Ansari for empowerment of constitutional bodies

NHRCNepalgunj / Dec 29: Spokesperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mohana Ansari, has underscored the need of empowering the constitutional commissions to ensure rights friendly society and the justice to the needy ones.

At a programme organized by the Citizen Dialogue Centre here Thursday, Spokesperson Ansari said the rights defenders should bridge the State and citizens for effective justice delivery.

According to her, the government needs to ensure equal participation of women in the constitutional bodies. The existing policy should be implemented effectively to make the commission functional.

On the occasion, advocate Deepandra Jha presented a working paper on the bill the government has presented at the Legislature-Parliament regarding the commissions on Madhesi, Muslim, indigenous and Tharu community.

Other rights defenders, local leaders, lawyers, university teachers and civil society representatives opined that the constitutional commissions could not act independent as long as the political stalemate continues. RSS
