NPC begins study of Kathmandu-Tarai fast track

government logoKathmandu / Dec 29: The National Planning Commission (NPC) has started carrying out a study of the Kathmandu-Tarai fast track to pave the way for its construction.

The government on December 22 authorised the NPC to conduct study of the project and submit the report within a month.

A committee formed under the coordination of NPC Commission Vice Chairperson Min Bahadur Shrestha has held the responsibility to carry out detailed study of the project, the NPC authority said.

Meanwhile, the committee meeting held on Thursday decided to present the report to the government on Sunday for necessary revision after carrying out an inspection of the project area. The committee has also called the NPC for the presentation of the report.

With funding from the government, the project aims to complete its construction in next five years. It costs Rs 112 billion to construct 76 kilometres road under the project.

NPC member Prof Hirendra Man Pradhan, secretaries of Ministries of Law, Finance and Physical Infrastructure and Transport Tek Prasad Dhungana, Shanta Raj Subedi and Dhan Bahadur Tamang respectively, Director General of the Department of Roads Devendra Karki and the project chief Shatendra Shakya are members of the study committee.
