CAAN earns more than four billion rupees in a year

Kathmandu / Dec 31: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has made an income of Rs. 4.52 billion in the fiscal year 2015/16.

The targeted income for CAAN excluding airport development tariff was RS. 3.86 billion but the real income surpassed the targeted by Rs. 643.8 million, according to information shared at the 18th anniversary of the Authority here Saturday.

The CAAN oversees the management of 32 airports currently in operation across the country. There are however a total of 50 airports, with four new being constructed. Of them only 26 are blacktopped.

The CAAN has targeted to complete the Gautam Buddha airport by mid 2018 and is also working on the Pokhara regional airport and the second international airport in Nijgarh Bara.

On the occasion, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeevan Bahadur Shahi said that the government was working to remove Nepal’s aviation sector from the blacklist, and urged the CAAN officials to work for it as well.

Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Shanker Prasad Adhikari said the country’s aviation sector could be removed from the blacklist if the work is carried out as per the work execution contract agreement reached with the Ministry. RSS
