Damak / Jan 5: Ultra runner Meera Rai has been honoured with a cash prize of Rs. 2.8 million.

The funds were collected by organizations based in the UK in recognition of Meera’s feat at the international ultra running, bringing name and fame to the country.

Member-secretary of National Sports Council Keshav Bahadur Bista, Chief District Officer Uttar Kumar Khatri, MP Mahendra Kumar Subba jointly handed over a cheque worth the amount to Meera at a function held here on Thursday.

The Sagarmath Taekwando Dojang in the UK reportedly took the initiative to collect funds for Meera, who was recently nominated to the Adventurer of the Year People’s Choice Award of National Geographic.

Also on the occasion, Karate coach Dhruva Bikram Malla was honoured with Rs. 200,000 in cash for inspiring Meera into ultra running. Born in Sanodumja, Bhojpur, 26-year-old Meera joined athletics after being termed a disqualified combatant of the armed conflict. RSS
