Local level election on May 14 and June 14; PM consults Election Commission on polls in two phases

ElectionKathmandu / Apr. 23: The government has decided to hold the local level election on two phases.  The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Sunday has decided to hold the local level election on May 14 and June 14.

As per the decision, the first phase of election, scheduled for May 14, will be conducted on Province number 3, 4 and 6. Likewise, the second phase of the election will be held on June 14 in Province number 1, 2, 5 and 7.

The decision was made keeping in view making the Madheshi Front to participate in the local level election as per the agreement between the ruling alliance and the Front on Saturday.

Likewise, the government has decided to endorse the revise the constitution amendment bill through the process. “The cabinet has decided to endorse the revised constitution amendment bill through the process”, said Minister Nayak .

To finalize the revised constitution amendment bill, the ruling alliance and the Madhehsi Front has constituted four-member working committee comprised of Rajendra Shrestha of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Laxman Lal Karna of Rastriya Janata Party, Krishna Prasad Sitaula of Nepali Congress and Buddhiman Tamang of Rastriya Prajantantra Party.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday held consultations with the top guns of Election Commission regarding holding the local level elections, scheduled for May 14, in two phases.

Prime Minister Dahal had invited Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav and other commissioners to his official residence in Baluwatar for a meeting this morning.

Top leaders of the two ruling parties — Sher Bahadur Deuba-led Nepali Congress and PM Dahal-led CPN Maoist — had committed the agitating Federal Alliance to holding local elections in four provinces that touch Tarai-Madesh region in the second phase.

The two sides have chosen to hold elections in Province No. No. 1, 2, 5 and 7 , where the number of local levels will be altered as per yesterday’s agreement, on June 14 in the second phase.
