NHRC urges stakeholders to respect human rights during local polls

NHRCKathmandu / Sept. 7: National Human Rights Commission (NRHC) has urged all the stakeholders to help conduct the third phase of local elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

Issuing a press release on Thursday, NHRC urged the Nepal government to maintain law and order to create fearless environment for the people to exercise their voting rights throughout the polling day.

Similarly, NHRC also urged all the political parties to respect freedom of expression and maintain social harmony among various castes and creeds and, not to disrupt peaceful mass meetings organized by political parties, by burning tires and staging torch rallies.

Likewise, NHRC has also urged the Election Commission to ensure that the political parties will abide by the election code of conduct and immediately take action against those who violate it.

Similarly, the observers should maintain impartiality while carrying out their duties without taking side with any political parties, NHRC said in the statement.

Meanwhile, NHRC also urged the media and social media users to help conduct the local elections in a free and fair manner without disseminating provocative messages.
