Preparations for Presidential Election conclude

Election CommissionKathmandu / Mar 12: The Election Commission has concluded necessary preparations including management of the human resources, ballot papers as well as security arrangements for the presidential election, EC spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal said.

Voting under the election will take place on Tuesday from 10 am to 3 pm at the polling centre at the Federal Parliament building at New Baneshwor, Kathmandu.

Incumbent President Bidya Devi Bhandari and former lawmaker Kumari Laxmi Rai are vying for the post of President.

Electoral college comprising the Federal Parliament members and the Province Assembly members will elect the President.

According to spokesperson Dhakal, there are 880 voters including 331 Federal Parliament members and 549 Province Assembly members.

The weightage attached to the votes of the Federal Parliamentarians is 79 while that of the Province Assembly members is 48. The total weightage of votes is set at 52,500 and the candidate securing 26,251 votes-weightage will become the President of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

Spokesperson Dhakal said that the election results would be known by Tuesday evening. RSS
