52 metric tonnes of garbage managed from valley

GarbageKathmandu / March 17: A total of 52 metric tonnes of garbage has been managed from various rivers in Kathmandu valley and ring road today.

Around 20 metric tonnes of garbage was managed from Bagmati river near Thapathali area under the banner of Bagmati Cleanup Mega Campaign that entered 253rd week today.

Like previous episodes, members from High Powered Bagmati Civilization Integration Development Committee, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, personnel of Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal and other organizations including Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Ltd joined the campaign.

Secretary at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, Committee’s Chairman Narendra Raj Basnet, artistes Manoj Gajurel and Rajaram Poudel and many other social figures were present in the campaign.

The cleanup campaign of Bagmati up above the Guheshowri has entered 214th week today. And, the cleanup campaign was held near Gothatar bridge area. Besides cleaning the river, the Pudasaini Friendship Society also weeded the gardens on the riverbanks.
Likewise, one metric tonne of garbage was collected from Rudramati cleanup campaign that entered 208th week today.

Marking the 179th week of the Bishnumati clean-up, four metric tons of solid waste was extracted by cleaning up the Siddheswar area of Tokha municipality-13. And a door-to-door cleaning programme was also organized on the occasion, according to campaigner Bijendra Lama.

Similarly, the cleaning of the Tilganga area of Bagmati reached 158th week today and it was observed by organizing an awareness-oriented cleaning campaign, according to Asha Pandey, a campaigner associated with the initiative. A metric ton of waste was managed from the 49th week of cleaning of the Aloknagar in the Min Bhawan area.

Another 21 metric ton of solid waste was collected by cleaning the ring road and adjoining areas from New Bus Park to the Green City Hospital area under the 49th week of the Ring Road cleaning campaign. The pits made to lay pipes for the Melamchi drinking water project are being used dumping site for solid waste, the cleaning coordinator Lok Bahadur Tandon said.

Personnel from all the three security agencies, Gayatri Pariwar, Green City hospital and others took part in the cleaning.

Likewise, four metric tons of solid waste was managed in the 31st week of cleaning of the Bafal section of the ring road today, according to coordinator Tara Bahadur Kunwar. On the occasion, Provincial Assembly member Rameswar Phunyal inaugurated a free drinking water service that began at Bafal chowk. RSS
