KMC books 84 people for littering

Kathmandu MetropolitionKathmandu / Mar 20: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has taken action against 84 people so far in the current fiscal year for littering and not disposing wastes at designated sites.

KMC collected Rs 237,350 in penalty from the people who were fined.

Chief of the operations section at KMC’s Environment Management Division, Meen Bahadur Thapa said that 84 people were booked for throwing wastes at places other than the designated waste collection sites and not disposing them in KMC’s garbage collection trucks.

He said a majority of those booked for littering are from Putalisadak, Bagh Bazaar, New Road, and Jamal areas.

Penalty for littering ranges between Rs 500 and Rs 100,000. KMC has been managing 800 metric tonnes of solid waste every day.
