Writ petition filed seeking SC stay order on President’s activities

Supreme CourtKathmandu / Mar 28:A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) demanding stay order on the President’s activities. The case is being heard tomorrow.

The writ petition filed today has sought stay order to bar the President from carrying out her official duties arguing that she took oath of office and secrecy from the already retired chief justice.

The writ petition was filed one day after the single bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada ordered the SC administration to allow the registration of the writ petition.

Advocates Hemmani Subedi and Narayan Kharel registered the writ petition today.

“The administration has registered the writ petition today which will be heard on Thursday itself,” said Kishor Paudel, spokesperson at the SC.

The writ petition has claimed that it is unconstitutional to administer oath of office and secrecy to the President by the already retired Chief Justice.

The writ petition has also demanded that the Judicial Council be ordered to immediately expedite the process for the appointment of a new Chief Justice.
