Nepal begins new era of stability and prosperity: Prez Bhandari
Kathmandu / Mar 29: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday has remarked that the country has entered into era of stability and prosperity. The President further said that the country should not plunge into conflict in any context.
While addressing a joint session of House of Representatives and National Assembly, President said that after conclusion of elections of local and federal representatives the future prospects of democracy and progress were high.
The president made such remarks while addressing the joint session of both upper and lower houses for the first time.
Reading out a paper that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli presented to her, she said that the successful conclusion of elections has brought an end to the protracted political transition and uncertainty and induced rays of hope for prosperity.
She underlined the need of cooperation with the neighbouring countries for the prosperity and development of the country.
President Bhandari expressed her hope that Nepal will be free of corruption and called on all to join hands to put an end to corruption practices in the country.
Offering condolences to the people who sacrificed their lives for the nation, she said that time has come to fulfill the dreams of martyrs to take the country towards the path of prosperity and economic development.
Likewise, the head-of-the-state, urging for violence free society, said that the country should not involve in any kind of violence under any pretext.
She said that the people have expected good governance and development from the incumbent government. “The clear vision of the incumbent government has brought in excitement among the people,” the President added.
Saying that the Nepal’s Parliament is an example of unity in diversity, the President was of the opinion that there is a huge participation of backward communities in various sectors in the recent time than in the past.
“Though there are ruling and opposition sides in the Parliament, the people’s representatives should believe in the expectations and trust of the people,” President Bhandari said.
Saying that Nepal was listed in the least developed countries due to the weak governance and administrations, President Bhandari said that the country should head towards the path of economic development at a faster pace now.
The government should work effectively to raise awareness among youths and children, she said.
“A large number of youths are in abroad for employment. Now, the government should address the expectation of the youths for the development of the country,” President Bhandari said, adding, “The government should think the ways to make youth capable. The government should focus on providing education to the children.”
Incumbent President Bidya Devi Bhandari has been re-elected as the head of state for the second time, securing nearly three-fourths of the total vote strength of the Electoral College on March 14, 2018.
She was first elected the head of state in October 2015. Prior to her election, she was the vice-chairman of UML, the post to which she was elected twice in 2009 and 2014.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, House Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Timilsena and ministers among others were present in the meeting.
