PM’s directive to work for illiteracy abolition

Kathmandu / Mar 31: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed people’s representatives at all levels to work actively to contribute to the illiteracy abolition campaign.

Speaking at the national convention of Rural Municipalities National Federation Nepal in the capital on Saturday, he said that there should be no children out of school in the next two years. “I will be taking one girl child to be enrolled in the school during the children enrolment campaign that begins on April 18, and I request all the people’s representatives to join the campaign,” he said.

If all the 36,000 people’s representatives help enroll a child each, the campaign would become successful, he added. The Prime Minister also said that healthy and develop-oriented change could begin from the local level.

On the occasion, he urged the people’s representatives to remain alert of elements that disturb development and social harmony. “Efforts are being made to divide the Nepali hearts and minds, hence people’s need to be alert to it, the government will not tolerate efforts to spread hatred in the country.”

The Prime Minister urged the people’s representatives to work in favor of agriculture, tourism, infrastructure and stability, and serve the people by giving up the pre-election ideologies and differences.

Also speaking at the programme, Chief Minister of Province No. 3 Dormani Poudel, Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Lalbabu Pandit and NC leader Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said the local government should not fail in addressing the people’s aspiration as they are directly linked with the people.

Chairs and Vice-chairs of 460 rural municipalities in the seven provinces are taking part in the three-day national convention. The convention will see deliberations on ways to make the local level prosperous and people-oriented, and end with the election of a new leadership of the federation. RSS
