Nepali senior leaders, mainstream media hail PM Oli’s visit to China as successful

Kathmandu, June 25 (Xinhua) — Nepali Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s recent visit to China has contributed to further deepening mutual trust, friendship and expanding cooperation between the two countries, Nepali senior leaders and mainstream media said on Sunday.
Senior leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the prime minister’s visit to China is significant in further strengthening mutual trust and cooperation between the two sides.
“As we are marching ahead towards the path of economic development following a prolonged political transition, we need support and goodwill from both of our neighboring countries China and India. Prime Minister Oli’s recent visits to China and India have been productive to achievement of this goal,” said the senior leader who is also a former prime minister of the country.
Senior leader of the major opposition party Nepali Congress Ramsharan Mahat said that the prime minister’s visit to China was productive especially in strengthening the economic cooperation between the two countries.
Mahat, who is also the former finance minister, is of the view that Nepal and China should finalize modalities of the investment at the earliest to build cross-border railway lines connecting Kathmandu with Chinese border town Kerung in line with the consensus reached between the two sides.
Mahat said that Nepal should seek support from China in the areas of foreign direct investment, energy, agriculture, transportation and cross-border connectivity.
Another leader of ruling Nepal Communist Party, Keshav Badal said that Prime Minister Oli’s visit to China was successful in promoting mutual trust and bilateral cooperation in wide-ranging areas including cross-border railroad connectivity.
Oli returned home Sunday following his six-day official visit to China.
Meanwhile, the mainstream media including broadsheet daily newspapers have hailed Prime Minister Oli’s visit to China, saying that the visit was instrumental in building mutual trust and understanding between the two countries.
In its editorial on Sunday, Nepal’s largest selling daily newspaper “Kantipur” observed that Prime Minister Oli’s visit to China contributed to building mutual trust between Kathmandu and Beijing.
The editorial stressed the swift implementation of the bilateral agreements reached between the two sides during the prime minister’s visit to China.
