Nepal V Netherlands Match at LORD’S Granted Full International Status
Lords (UK), June 26/ It has been announced today that the match between Nepal and the Netherlands at Lord’s in late July, which takes place as part of the MCC Triangular Tournament, has been granted the status of a full International T20 match.
The IT20 between the two ICC Associate nations will be the last of three matches played on Sunday 29th July, with MCC taking on both Nepal and the Netherlands earlier in the day.
It has already been confirmed that the former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene will lead the MCC side, whilst Scotland internationals Dylan Budge, Alasdair Evans and Mark Watt are among the first players to be named in the Club’s squad.
Nepal and the Netherlands will face each other in a T20 International for the first time since 2015, when Nepal travelled to the Netherlands for a four-match series. The hosts won that series 3-1, with two matches taking place in Amsterdam and two in Rotterdam.
The match at Lord’s in July has been confirmed as an International T20 after Nepal’s elevation to One-Day International status, which came as a result of their performance at the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers earlier this year.
The Netherlands enjoyed one of their finest hours at the Home of Cricket back in 2009 when they defeated England by four wickets in the opening match of the ICC World Twenty20. For Nepal, it will be only their second visit to Lord’s, having made their debut in 2016, when they beat MCC by 41 runs in a match organised to mark the 200-year relationship between Britain and Nepal.
The remainder of the MCC squad for the tournament will be announced in the coming weeks.
