Tharuwan Struggle Committee argues Tikapur incident a political one

Kathmandu, June 30: Tharuwan Joint Struggle Committee has passed a 10-point decision with the Kathmandu declaration from its recent national gathering.

It was informed at a press conference that the gathering argued the Tikapur incident occurred during the Tharuhat agitation in 2072 was purely of political nature, demanding the government to scrap the false allegation labeled against 26 persons including coordinator of the committee, Dhaniram Chaudhary, and lawmaker Resham Chaudhary.

The struggle committee also warned of agitation from first week of August if the government ignored the demand.

Former lawmaker Rukmini Chaudhary said the constitution promulgated in 2015 was incomplete and discriminatory. The governments had not addressed the 13-point demand put forth relating to the identity, rights, access and representation of the Tharus who have been excluded for over 250 years.

She also complained that compensation was not provided to the Tharu families whose houses were set on fire and Tharu women raped during the Tikapur incident.

Also, the public holidays given on the festivals of Tharu people were cut by government, she criticized. RSS
