Parliamentary hearing of CJ nominee Mishra to begin from Sept 10

Nepal ParliamentKathmandu / Sept 7: The parliamentary hearing of Om Prakash Mishra, nominee for the post of Chief Justice,has been scheduled for September 10. Senior Justice Mishra has been working as the acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court after Deepak Raj Joshee went on leave following his rejection for the top judiciary post.

A meeting Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) presided over by senior-most member Laxman Lal Karna on Friday decided to hold discussion with the complainants on September 9 after opening the complaints filed against Mishra and decided to hold parliamentary hearing on September 10.

Four complaints have been registered against acting Chief Justice Mishra with five accusations. However, one of the complainants has withdrawn his complaint, it has been learnt.

Mishra has been accused of various charges including giving clean-chit to Nanda Kishor Pun, who was accused of leaking a question paper of the math during the examination conducted for the appointment of assistant professor at Tribhuvan University (TU), delivering controversial verdict by taking bribe in a case of former Armed Police Force DIG RanjanKoiral, who is doing time on the charge of murdering his wife, and issuing verdict in favour of his relative, acquitting a culprit in Kalikot, helping in the tax evasion cases of Ncell and Surya Nepal, and reducing the compensation amount to Rs 490,000 by overturning the verdict of a foreign tribunal that had set a compensation of Rs. 1.05 to the victims.

With the Judicial Council recommending Mishra as the Chief Justice, the PHC had fixed the time from August 26 to September 5 to file complaints against him.
