Protest in Maitighar Mandala demanding justice for Nirmala
Kathmandu / Sept 15: In an attempt to exert pressure on the government to book those guilty in the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur, civil society members organized a protest demonstrations across the country today.
Similarly, a mass protest has been organized at Maitighar Mandala demanding justice for Nirmala Panta. During the mass meeting, organized by the civil society, parents of victim Panta were also present demanding justice for their daughter.
Nirmala Pant, 13, of Bhimdutta Municiaplity-2, of Kanchanpur district was brutally raped and murdered 51 days ago. She was found dumped in a sugarcane field at Ultakham, Bhimdatta municipality-2 a day after she went missing.
The rally was organised under the citizens’ initiative #JusticeForNirmala, which had taken the social media by storm after the fateful Kanchanpur incident, turning into a forum where people could come together and collectively raise their voices against such a contemptible crime.
Today’s march was a continuation of a similar rally under the same initiative that was held on August 25. However, today’s rally witnessed participation of a much larger crowd, which included professionals from various fields, students, men, women, senior citizens, mediapersons, rights activists, writers, political commentators, security personnel among others.
