Parliament passes 16 various bills before deadline; ‘Govt should be more responsible to make constitution acceptable’

Kathmandu / Sept 18: Both houses of the Federal Parliament have passed 16 various bills related to the implementation of fundamental rights before the deadline of September 18 as stipulated in the constitution.

The House of Representatives (lower house) and the National Assembly (upper house) have passed the Bill Related to Individual’s Privacy, 2075; the Racial and Caste-based Discrimination (Crime and Punishment) Bill first amendment, 2075; the Bill Related to Compulsory and Free Education, 2075 and the Bill Related to Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights, 2075.

Likewise, the Federal Parliament has passed the Public Health Bill, 2075; the Bill Related to Employment Right, 2075; the Bill on Right to Food Sovereignty, 2075; the Consumer Protection Bill, 2075; the Bill Related to Housing, 2075; the Bill Related to Land (Seventh Amendment), 2075; the Bill Designed to Amend the Act Related to the Rights of People with Disabilities, 2075; the Bill Designed to Amend the Environment Protection Act, 2075 and the Bill on Public Security, 2075.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Krishna Bahadur Mahara gave out this information at a press conference organized by the Federal Parliament on Tuesday. He said these bills have been forwarded for authentication by the President.

He especially thanked the government and the political parties for their cooperation in passing these bills within the deadline, adding that the bills have been endorsed by fulfilling all the required process.

National Assembly chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina said the federal parliament had given priority to getting the bills related to the implementation of the fundamental rights passed. He said the remaining bills would also be passed.

Altogether 32 bills had been registered in the Parliament Secretariat.

‘Govt should be more responsible to make constitution acceptable’

Meanwhile, lawmaker of Nepali Congress (NC) Pradip Giri has said it was the government’s main responsibility to ensure broader acceptability of the constitution.

Speaking at the special hour of the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Tuesday, he said NC does not support reactionary and conspiratorial forces even when the party is in opposition. “NC supports the government in time of necessity and always backs the truth,” he added.

Giri asked the government to immediately nab the culprits involved in the murder of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur district and drew attention of the bodies concerned about the increased cases of violence and rape in the society.

During the meeting, lawmaker of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Khagaraj Adhikari said that the culprits of the serious crime could not be spared. The current government got achievement to develop extraordinary relations with the neighbouring countries by strengthening democracy and the country, he argued.

Adhikari praised the government for collecting good amount of revenue and also drafting the laws on fundamental rights within three years of the promulgation of the constitution.

Likewise, lawmaker Rajendra Lingden demanded that a parliamentary committee be formed claiming that billions of rupees would was embezzled in the procurement of the wide-body aircraft for the national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC). RSS
