Humla within touching distance of road connectivity
Prakash Singh / Bajura: Within a few months, remote Humla district will be connected with the national road network as the construction of a Bailey bridge over Kawadi river along the Karnali corridor has gained momentum of late.
Nepali Army, who is constructing the Karnali corridor, said the construction of the bridge is being carried out in war footing and will come into operation within two months.
“We are targeting to accomplish this construction within a month so that few areas of Humla could witness vehicular movement in the district,” Lieutenant Shankar Silwal at Tithi chaur camp along the Karnali corridor said.
According to Tajakotmaila Rural Municipality Chief Bagdal Malla, locals are elated with the news after realizing their dreams of witnessing vehicles in the district are about to be fulfilled.
Due to lack of road connectivity, Humlis were compelled to pay hefty airfare and walk for seven days to reach Bajura, Kalikot districts to board vehicles.
Karnali corridor stretch is 145 kilometres from Lalu of Kalikot to Sarisalla of Humla district in which 40 km lies in Kalikot, 44 km in Bajura and remaining 61 in Humla district.
Meanwhile, NA has already constructed 107 km and vehicles have been given permission to ply in 71 km stretch along the Karnali corridor.
