Speaker Mahara appeals to major opposition for creative criticism in upcoming sessions

Kathmandu / Apr 28: Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara here today urged the major opposition Nepali Congress to creatively criticize the government’s performances thereby contributing in making the fourth session of the federal parliament successful and productive.

Speaking to journalists about the preparations and agenda to be discussed in the parliamentary session to begin Monday, Speaker Mahara pledged to enable an environment in the session where the opposition could raise questions over the performance of the incumbent government and hold discussions.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has summoned the session for both the houses- the House of Representatives and the National Assembly at the Parliament Building at 4:00 pm on Monday. Speaker Mahara shared that discussion would be held on the issues relating to the queries raised by the parliamentarians of the Rastriya Janata Party and the like about releasing the report prepared by a high-level committee formed under the conjunction of Supreme Court’s former justice Girish Chandra Lal to investigate over the incidents of killing, violence, destruction of properties and arson at the time of Madhesh agitation.

“All the preparation including technical one has been over for the session,” informed Mahara, adding that letter received from the Office of President in connection to calling the houses’ session would be read out in both sessions by the respective Speaker and Chair.

Furthermore, in both sessions, condolence resolution would be tabled on the demise of Diwakar Golchha elected as a member of constituent assembly in 2008, on Rudra Mani Sharma elected from Gulmi in 1991 and Ram Krishna Tamrakar elected from Rupandehi in 1991 and 1999, according to Mahara.

The meeting of Business Advisory Committee on Monday would decide whether the leader of the major opposition party would deliver his/her remarks in the first day of the session.

On May 3, the government will present its policy and programs for the fiscal year 2019/20 for deliberations. Thereafter, discussion on budget for the next fiscal year would follow which will be presented by the government by the mid of the Nepali month Jestha (May 29) as stipulated in the Constitution. RSS
