I will resign if I fail to live up to people’s expectations: Tourism Minister Bhattarai

Kathmandu / August 1: Newly appointed minister for Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai said that he will step back if he fails to live up to people’s expectations.

Speaking to media persons today in the capital, Bhattarai said he would apprise them of his detailed plan he wants to implement as a tourism minister. “I will sign a work contract with the PM and make public my work plans soon,”, Bhattarai said.

“I’ll inform media persons of the activities of the ministry, controversies and decisions to be taken,” he added.

Minister Bhattarai expressed a commitment to completing all the tasks including preparation for Visit Nepal Year 2020 pending since the demise of former minister Rabindra Adhikari.

Answering the question asked by journalists, Adhikari said that Visit Nepal Year 2020 would succeed.

” I will give top priority to timely completion of Gautam Buddha International Airport and operation of Pokhara Airport with Visit Nepal Year 2020 in mind,” he said. He also informed that he would take the initiative in forging political consensus to bridge differences over Nijgadh International Airport.

He represents the dissident voice within the ruling party Nepal Communist Party. He clarified that he was a strong critic as well as a staunch supporter of the PM Oli.

He also vowed to carry out his responsibilities as a tourism minister as effectively as possible to help the government achieve its goal expressed in its slogan ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’.

He said that his ministry will coordinate with private sector and people to preserve and reconstruct cultural heritages.

Bhattarai urged media persons to play its watchdog role by closely monitoring the activities he will carry out as a tourism minister.
