PM Oli extends gratitude to one and all for making 13th SAG grand success; Nepal second in medal talley
Kathmandu / Dec 10: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday extended gratitude to one and all for making the 13th South Asian Games a grand success.
In a brief video message, Oli said: “I would like to extend sincere thanks and deep appreciation to all member states and players for their active participation in the 13th SAG and making it a grand success.”
He said that the SAG has further promoted understanding, goodwill, harmony, unity, and solidarity among the people of South Asia.
“I thank one and all for their sincere contribution to making this mega sporting event a grand success. We were truly honored to host this mega event,” the prime minister said.
However, Prime Minister Oli could not attend the concluding ceremony of the 13th SAG held at Dasrath stadium in the capital on Tuesday.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel, cabinet ministers and high-ranking officials attended the concluding ceremony of the mega sporting event. The 13th SAG that kicked off on December 1 concluded today.
India maintained their dominance at the regional sporting mega-event and finished on the top spot with a total of 312 medals including 174 gold, 93 silver and 45 bronze medals.
Hosts Nepal beat their previous record of highest gold medals won at the SAG by securing 51 gold, their previous best being 31 at the 1999 edition which was also hosted by Nepal.

Nepal secured a total of 206 medals, 60 silver and 95 bronze medals included.
On the final day of the event, Nepal gathered two golds from boxing and football while India collected 10 gold.
Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Maldives secured 40, 31, 19 and 1 gold respectively, their total tally being 251, 131, 138 and 5 medals.
Bhutan took the bottom spot without having won any gold, however clinching 7 silver and 13 bronze medals.
