Cabinet meeting decides further restrict movement; conduct mass scale tests in three sensitive districts

Kathmandu / Apr. 04: Following the report of first local transmission of coronavirus infection in the country, the meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Saturday took some important decisions as further precautions to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Following the cabinet meeting, Government Spokesperson, Minister of Finance Yubaraj Khatiwada, informed that the cabinet decided to further enforce restriction of movement to make lockdown more effective. Similarly, the cabinet meeting also decided to conduct mass scale tests in three districts identified as sensitive areas (Kailali, Kanchanpur, Baglung). Likewise, the cabinet meeting also decided to equip health practitioners.

Today three new cases were found corona positive in Far Western Province of Nepal. A 34-year-old woman from Kailali, who is known be the sister-in-law of one of the earlier infected persons, has contracted the disease, according to the Ministry of Health and Population. In addition to that, two other persons tested positive for COVID-19. The Ministry of Health and Population today shared the information of three new confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which two persons recently returned to Nepal from India while the other contracted the contagion from her brother-in-law.

So far, Nepal recorded nine Covid-19 positive cases. Experts have been cautioning that the number could go up if the government starts mass testing. Earlier the government was doing limited test due to lack of sufficient testing kits. However, the government has recently started testing from all seven provinces.
