Lyrid meteor shower to peak from Thursday night to Friday morning
Kathmandu / April 21: Come Thursday night and the sky enthusiasts can enthuse themselves with the Lyrid meteor shower that will reach its peak from coming Thursday night till wee hours the next day.
According to Suresh Bhattarai, Chairperson at the Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO), at least 15 to 20 meteors would be seen per hour while activeness of the sparkling meteor shower would go excessive from 11 am on Thursday to till sunrise on Friday.
Bhattarai shared that Lyrid meteor shower became active since April 16 and will continue till April 30.
The Lyrid meteor shower occurs when the dust particles from the Thatcher comet come under friction as they enter the earth’s atmosphere. The comet then leaves its dust particles while revolving the sun that spreads to millions of kilometres.
The Thatcher comet takes 415 years to revolve around the Sun. RSS
