Record 8,605 new cases of COVID-19 and 58 fatalities in 24 hours

Kathmandu / May 5: The Ministry of Health and Population on Wednesday reported 58 COVID-19 related deaths.

This is the highest number of virus-related fatalities confirmed across the nation in a single day. Currently, the nation’s death toll has surged to 3,475 and the death rate is 0.97 per cent.

Similarly, 8,605 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the last one day, taking the nation’s novel coronavirus tally to 359,610.

In 20,756 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the past 24 hours, 8,605 persons were found infected with SARS-CoV-2, informed Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the Health Ministry in the regular press briefing.

Likewise, out of 616 antigen tests done in the 24 hours, the virus infection was detected in 54 people.

Currently, there are 66,352 active cases of COVID-19 across the nation of which, 4,764 patients are admitted to various institutional isolations and 61,588 are placed in home isolation. Likewise, 381 people mostly those who had returned from abroad, are placed in quarantine.

Of the active patients, 600 are admitted to the ICU and 156 are receiving treatment under ventilator facility.

Meanwhile, 1,993 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in institutional isolation or staying in home isolation recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now recorded 289,783 cases of recovery and the recovery rate is at 80.6 per cent.
