COVID-19 active cases cross 100,000 with 9,238 new infections; 168 fatalities
Kathmandu / May. 12: With 9,238 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed on Wednesday, the nation’s novel coronavirus tally has reached 422,349.
In 20,362 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the past 24 hours, a total of 9,238 persons were found infected with SARS-CoV-2, informed Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the Health Ministry.
Likewise, out of 424 antigen tests done in the last day, the virus infection was detected in 67 people.
Of the new infections, 3,924 were recorded in Kathmandu Valley including 226 in Bhaktapur, 448 in Lalitpur and 3,250 in Kathmandu.
Currently, there are 101,634 active cases of COVID-19 across the nation of which, 7,291 are admitted to various institutional isolations and 94,343 are placed in home isolation. Likewise, 517 people mostly those who had returned from abroad, are placed in quarantine.
Meanwhile, 4,444 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in institutional isolation or staying in home isolation recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now recorded 316,463 cases of recovery and the recovery rate is 74.9 per cent.
The Ministry of Health and Population on Wednesday added 168 fatalities to the nation’s COVID-19 death toll, which has now spiked to 4,252.
