7,598 new cases, 7,664 recoveries and 193 fatalities in 24 hours

Kathmandu, May 23: With 7,598 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed on Sunday, the nation’s novel coronavirus tally has reached 513,241.

In 18,965 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the past 24 hours, a total of 7,598 persons were found infected with SARS-CoV-2, informed Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the Health Ministry in the regular press briefing.

Likewise, out of 931 antigen tests done on the last day, the virus infection was detected in 316 people.

Of the new cases, 2,821 were recorded in Kathmandu Valley including 366 in Bhaktapur, 694 in Lalitpur and 1,761 in Kathmandu.

Currently, there are 115,547 active cases of COVID-19 across the nation of which, 7,349 are admitted to various institutional isolations and 108,198 are placed in home isolation. Likewise, 873 people mostly those who had returned from abroad, are placed in quarantine.

Of the active patients, 1,721 are admitted to the ICU, and 484 are under treatment with the ventilator facility.

Meanwhile, 7,664 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in institutional isolation or staying in home isolation recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now recorded 391,348 cases of recovery and the recovery rate is 76.3 per cent.

The Ministry of Health and Population on Sunday added 193 fatalities to the nation’s COVID-19 death toll, which has now spiked to 6,346.
