A cow farm set up in Rs. 200 million investment, producing 700 liter milk a day
Shankhar Pahadi / Sarlahi, Aug. 2: A cow farm has been established here at Jutpani in Lalbandi Municipality-2 with an investment of Rs. 200 million. The farm produces over 700 liters of milk a day.
The farm is registered as Kamdhenu Gaushala Pvt in the name of Apsara Silwal.
The farm is located near the banks of the Lakhandehi stream.
The farm that began with 2 cows has 150 cows now.
Silwal said she purchased land and invested Rs 10 lakh at the beginning for the farm. Now, she is using a total of 18 bigah of land, where she has the farm and is also growing grass.
She informed that the farm is producing 700 liters of milk from 65 cows every day.
If investment on land is included, total investment for this firm equals to Rs. 200 million, she said.
The investment is incurred in the purchase of cows, making sheds, building infrastructure, and the land of the farm, she added.
Her husband Ajit Saran Lamichhane who used to be a priest is now supporting her. Ajit said that he is more satisfied with cow farming than in his previous profession.
Lamichhane said that the farm has created employment opportunities for 15 people. He has got the full support of family and acquaintances.
He informed that 40 liters of milk is sold directly from the farm and 660 liters is sold to the dairies including the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC).
The lady owner shared that the locals come in the farm at 5 am to collect their milk.
She added that the pure milk of the farm has attracted the people of the marketplaces of Labandi and Hariban.
She said that grass is planted in 18 bigah of land purchased by company and is producing nutrients fodder.
The cows consume around 4 thousand 2 hundred kg fodder every day.
The company produces Sailej feed and supply around 85 tonnes of fodder to the various markets.
She said that around 5 tones organic manure is produced in the farm a year and it is supplied in the market.
The company that operates the cow farm is preparing for growing grass, sailej feed, gas plant and biogas industry in the 18 bigah of land.
She said that a cow produces 10 to 25 liter of milk at a time.
The cows in the farm were brought from Nawalparasi and Birgunj. There are Jersey, Holstein, Jersey Cow, Sahiwal, Gir, and Haryana variety of cows in the farm.
Two livestock service technicians are providing 24 hours service on the farm.
She is expecting grants from the provincial and federal government. “We have filled required forms and submitted application for grants, but none has so far come to inspect our farm.”
We are planning to establish a biogas plant and compost manure-producing machine, she said.
She is generating approximately Rs 1.05 million per month from the sale of milk.
She is adopting the international model on the farm and is improving it further.
She is also planning to raise the local variety of cows on the farm in addition to advanced ones.
