British Embassy in Kathmandu celebrates 40 years of Chevening Scholarships

Kathmandu / Sept 8: The British Embassy in Kathmandu marked a significant milestone as it hosted a pre-departure event on Thursday, September 7, for 12 Chevening scholars. These exceptional individuals will embark on fully-funded postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom this year.

What makes this occasion even more special is that 2023 commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Chevening Scholarship Scheme. Over the past four decades, this program has provided invaluable opportunities to 249 Nepali scholars who have received full funding for postgraduate studies at various UK universities. This initiative has not only forged lasting friendships between the two nations but has also empowered some of Nepal’s brightest students to achieve their academic aspirations.

To celebrate this remarkable journey and honor the achievements of Chevening Scholars in Nepal, British Ambassador Rob Fenn hosted a reception. The event brought together students who are about to embark on their UK studies, recent returnees from the UK, and Chevening alumni in Nepal.
