High court allows KMC to expand pavements in New Road

Kathmandu / July 15: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has been allowed to continue expansion of pavement at New Road, one of the busiest locations in the federal capital.

The Division Road Office, Kathmandu, had interfered with KMC, thereby forcing a halt on pavement works.

A division bench of judges duo Dhruba Raj Nand and Prakash Kharel at High Court, Patan, issued an interim order in favor of the KMC on Sunday.

The KMC had initiated the expansion of the footpath since May 24 after finalizing the contractor via bidding. But the Road Division Office obstructed the KMC from continuing it the next day.

As the Road Division also wrote to KMC to stop pavement expansion, the KMC knocked on the doors of High Court, Patan, with a writ petition on June 9, demanding permission to continue the expansion.
