US announces $33 million donation to support school meals programme in Nepal

Lamjung / Sept 21: The Department of Agriculture of the United States has announced a 33 million dollar donation to support school meals in Nepal.

According to the US Embassy in Nepal, the donation will be utilised in partnership with the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to improve student enrollment, attendance, literacy, and nutrition in schools in remote areas of Nepal.

“We are excited to announce a $33 million donation from the US Department of Agriculture to support school meals in Nepal! In partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the UN World Food Programme (WFP), this five-year initiative will benefit over 120,000 children in rural districts,” the Embassy said on social media X on Saturday.

The US diplomatic mission in Nepal specified that WFP would provide daily hot meals to nearly 121,792 pre-primary and primary school children each year in 1,039 schools in Bajhang, Bajura and Darchula Districts of Sudurpaschim Province.
