NRB to issue fresh notes for upcoming Dashain from next week
Kathmandu / September 13: Keeping in view of the Dashain festival, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has announced to circulate fresh paper notes from September 20.
The crispy paper money goes into high demand as new notes are traditionally given as gifts during the festival. Last year, NRB did not distribute the new notes for the festival due to the high threat of COVID-19 pandemic.
The central bank provides the fresh paper notes from the currency management department at Thapathali. Outside the valley, fresh currency notes can be obtained from NRB’s branch offices located in Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj, Pokhara, Siddharthanagar, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi.
Usually, NRB every year issues the money only after Ghatasthapana, the first day of the great festival of Hindus. This year, it will be distributing the currency almost two weeks earlier to minimize the crowd amid ongoing threat of the pandemic, said NRB officials.
Rewati Nepal, Executive Director of NRB, said they have already started sending the new paper notes to banks and financial institutions for the purpose.
